FILE FORMATS

What do I need to know about downloading a file?

Please read this thoroughly before you buy a video from us. We offer four file formats. All of our videos are offered in downloadable formats and on DVD.

Let’s look at our three downloadable file formats. We offer all of our video files in the Windows Media Format. This is the easiest because if you are on a PC with Microsoft Windows you have Windows Media Player already installed. Just right click the link "save target as" and let her rip. Just be sure you know what file folder on your computer you are downloading to. Most of the time it will download into a folder you never use, so after you click "target as" change the target folder to desktop or something you use all the time.

QuickTime files we have two sizes.  We have a LARGE format that is intended for QuickTime player and Apple TV or iPod that you can hook up to a TV. The best way to handle this file is to right click on the file (or control click for Mac). “Save Target as” and select the area on your computer that you want it downloaded to. These files can be up to a 700MB in size so make sure you have room on your hard drive first.

With both maintenance videos and Hog Bites you have two opportunities to download your file. At the end of the order process you are looking at your receipt. On the left side midway down the page, in small blue letters, is written download file. Clicking on that will take you to the download page. If you miss that, don't worry! check your email because you are sent a link to the same download page. Please pay attention when you right click to download your file as to what file folder on your computer you are downloading to. You may want to adjust to download to your desktop or a file folder you have created for your download. You have 24 hours to download before the link becomes inactive. Any problems please email us at sales@buildahog.com .

If you have only QuickTime installed on your computer then just double click (or control click for Mac) the file to open it.

Warning if you have both QuickTime and iTunes installed on your computer the LARGE format will default to iTunes. In order to view this file in QuickTime you must open QuickTime player first then use the drop down under file, and select “open file” then play after it loads. To use iTunes just double click (or control click for Mac).

With our Maintenance series of videos don’t forget to download your FREE maintenance mileage check-off sheets straight from the H-D manual and your FREE timeline to navigate to the exact location you want to view first.

Our small file format is intended for iPod and iPhones only. Just double click on them and they should load into iTunes.

Make sure you have current QuickTime players 7.2 and above and current iTunes player 7.4 or above.

You can download the latest QuickTime & iTunes for free from http://www.apple.com/

Our Hog Bites spotlight series of Harley Davidson repair and customization are available in three different download type files and Custom Burn DVD. You pick 'em! We burn 'em!

Why are your video download files so big?

We compress our files at a very high bit rate so the picture you see is crystal clear and big. We want to instruct you in the highest quality possible without blurs or ghosts like YouTube video.

PRODUCT

Can Michael really show me how to work on my bike? What skill level do I need?

Yes, Michael can help you work on your bike. With the Build A Hog maintenance videos, you will receive step-by-step instruction – it’s like working side-by-side with him. You don’t have to have a specific skill level per se to work on your bike. Best advice is to follow along with the video and always refer to your specified service manual. Go for it!

How much will this cost me?

That depends on which tools you currently own. Once you purchase the video, your initial investment will include a motorcycle jack, torque wrench or wrenches, and some standard hand tools. Once you have these staples, you’ll just need service parts (i.e. oil, filter, etc). The purchase of these tools will more than pay for themselves.

What tools are needed to do my own maintenance?

Tools you probably don’t have in your garage – we assume you have some basic tools. First and foremost, make sure you have a Harley-Davidson manual that covers your specific bike/model year. Secondly, don’t buy your tools at a street fair or a toy store. Buy good quality tools – they typically come with a lifetime warranty. You’ll be happy you did. For more advice, please refer to the tools advice section of our website.

Will working on my Harley® effect my factory warranty?

No, servicing your bike will not effect the factory warranty. If you always use factory-recommended parts (oils, filters, etc.) and maintain your motorcycle at the specified intervals in the manual, your warranty will not be affected. BONUS: We supply free downloadable mileage check-off sheets free with every DVD or video download.

Where can I buy the necessary tools?

Many of the tools you will need can be purchased at places such as Sears® or quality tool distributors such as Snap-On Tools®.

Can I purchase tools from Build A Hog?

Not at this time, but we’re in the process of developing one-of-kind, specialty tools to make your maintenance easier. Build A Hog VIPs will get early notification when these tools are available.

What if I screw up something while following a Build A Hog video?

The video is very specific and easy to follow, but if you need some advice, please send us an email and we’ll do our best to respond within 48 hours. Please remember, although this is an instructional video, you are solely responsible for the workmanship.

Is Build A Hog affiliated with Harley-Davidson?

Although Michael is certified as a Master Mechanic through the Harley-Davidson, Build A Hog, Inc. is not affiliated in any way with Harley-Davidson.

Where can I buy Build A Hog products?

If you’re reading this you’ve found the right place! And please check back often as we add new DVDs, downloads, hog wear and accessories.

If I watch one of these videos, can I do service on any Harley®?

Each video is model and year specific. Please check the model and year on the product list.

How long will a typical service take me?

The length of time that a service will take can vary depending on what type of service you’re performing (i.e. 1,000 mile service, 7,500 mile service, 20,000 mile service). With every maintenance DVD (downloadable file) purchase, you’ll receive Maintenance Mileage Check-Off Sheet free – which covers all service intervals.

How are the Build A Hog videos/instructions different than the
H-D manual?

Build A Hog videos will give you a visually based, easy to follow instruction with practical applications.

If I buy all of the videos, does this certify me as a Master Mechanic?

No, you won’t be a master mechanic… but you can pretend to be!

What happens if in two weeks I lose my download file or it gets erased?

This why we offer the combo pack for the smart consumer. Download now and in a few days get a DVD backup. Otherwise you would have to purchase another download file.

How do I know what services to do at typical mileage points?

If you buy a DVD or downloadable file at time of purchase, you download your free Maintenance Mileage Check-Off Sheet for your Harley®!

Do I really need a Harley-Davidson manual?

Absolutely! There are no two ways about it. Get the correct manual for your model.

Where do I get a Harley-Davidson manual?

Contact or visit your local dealership and they’ll be glad to help.

Will Michael (or Build A Hog) service my bike?

Unfortunately, no.

Do you have tips for winterizing my bike?

Check the growing list of Hog Bites. Be sure to register and we’ll notify you when you can Chew the Fat with Michael. We’ll be sure to update the schedule on the home page and in the Chew the Fat section under Hog Blog.

Who’s Bernie?
