Two more in the “can”

Monday, February 18th, 2008

We are just completing taping of  Hog Bites #9 and #10. Hog Bites #6 and #7 will be posted on our server no later than this Thursday the 21st.

We expect to have our Softail / Dyna Glide Maintenance DVD replicated and here by the end of February.

Michael is just getting the last few pieces together for our B.Y.O.B. (build your own bike) video. This was going to be our very first video and how we came up with the name Build A Hog……..Well needless to say we didn’t think Michael would have such a hard time getting his parts. Over a span of about eight months he kept getting the wrong frame so we started shooting other videos.

Michael will build a retro Bobber that looks super cool. He has built several bikes and has lots of insider tips and heads-up to share with you.

In the news today it sounds like HD-DVD is dropping out of the race. WalMart announced last week it will only sell Blu-ray disks. The bad news is for the people who bought HD-DVD players will end up with a limited number of choices. The good news is now that the format war is over and as more people buy Blu-ray players the price will drop for players and disks.

Well it’s back to work on the last touches on Hog Bites #7

Ray Culver

Just got it today !

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Hello again, Ray Culver here. I just got our proof disc of our new DVD. It is our Softail, Dyna Glide, and Evolution maintenance DVD. I get a copy to proof and make sure all the navigation works. All of our DVDs you can sub-navigate each chapter so you don’t have to fast forward anything.

All of our DVD’s are replicated and not duplicated. That means each disc is cut from a master and not a copy of a copy.

We hope to see the finished product by the end of February. Be sure to sign-up as a VIP because that is where we offer specials and deals.

‘Tis The Season

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Hello everyone this is Ray Culver co-founder of Build A Hog inc along with Michael Durham. Sorry it has been so long since our last post. The title of this blog says it all. We are located in the desert of Southern California. This is the time of year when the locals are out riding and enjoying the beautiful valley that nature gave us. In the summer we are like you are right now stuck inside because it is too hot to do anything outside. This is the time of year for production. Since we shoot all of our video in a two car garage just like you park in at night we can only shoot during the cool months. While most of the country is getting pounded by a ruthless winter this year, this is the only time we can play outside. We have had a great winter with some much needed rain.  We are in overdrive shooting as much as we can because in another few months it will be too hot. Michael is a great business partner! He has taught me a lot. I can pull a service on any Harley and do a number of repairs or customize a bike in many ways. We have a perfect partnership. Most start ups begin with two people with like interests. Before I met Michael I didn’t know squat about Harleys. While I was growing up I wasn’t interested in go- carts, scooters, bikes, or cars.  My big turn on was the dawn of electronic keyboards. Starting with then Walter Carlos (now Wendy) and Switched on Bach. Then on to Keith Emerson taking the first Moog Synthesizer on the road. “Wow! what the hell is that?” I had to have one. As all of us found out at a young age those cool toys cost a lot of money. That was the seventies, then in the eighties I worked with a top forty band in L.A. first wanting to be a musician then, when I figured out I could not keep time after four measures, running sound and lights for them. Then the big DJ craze came along and bar owners found out it was a lot cheaper to have a DJ than live music so that dream was killed.  Then digital video desktop editing came along. “Great! something new and still expensive!” It gave me a chance to be creative. With an understanding wife and a passion of my hobby I could excel. The summer of 2006 is when I first met Michael. I liked him right off the bat and he has a lot on the ball. I am a couple of decades older than he is but we hit it off right away. We started talking about our passions Michael for Harleys and mine for video production. That’s when the light bulb turned on for both of us. Hey let’s start a business.  We both love teaching. Michael had a lot of customers that wanted to learn more about their bikes. My daytime job was a construction manager for a national residential construction company so I was teaching new superintendents and contractors all the time and loved it.So the plan was a go and at that point we figured we needed to check out the competition. We didn’t find too much so we jumped in with both boots. My job is the production of our product. My ear is on the pulse of video production. Ask me who will come out on top of the HD DVD war? Blu-Ray from Sony will win that one. What codec (compression process) is best for video files? H-264 wins hands down. I am waiting for something new to pop this year. So what does this mean for you? You have an H-D Master rated Mechanic by the H-D Motor Company instructing you on your bike and me, an old techie, using the latest in video technology to deliver his message. That is what Build A Hog inc is all about. We want to be your information site about your passion your Harley Davidson motorcycle. Please join us in this endeavor!
